Documentary feature film, 2017, Germany, 67 min.
Directors: Fabian Fess, Gerrit Pawliczak
Synopsis:
Abandoned, neglected and forgotten. A couple of years ago, Halle-Freiimfelde was Germany’s most vacant city district. Meanwhile it has become an experimental ground for new approaches to urban development.
In 2012, a creative project dedicated to (re)designing Freiimfelde turned it into an urban screen by using graffiti and street art. The activities of local and international artists increased public awareness of the neighbourhood. Four years later, the stage for long-term development seems to be set and a local waste land shall be turned into a park by committed residents.
The documentary COLORS OF CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT gives voice to involved actors and asks for possibilities and limitations of citizen engagement in the face of current debates about interim usage, renovation and gentrification of inner-city housing and living spaces.
